Fragrant and beautiful is what comes to mind when looking at double early tulip Montreux. The flowers are exterior primrose yellow, inside Dresden yellow with a primrose yellow top as they mature they can show a red glow at the tip. Plant in groups of 10 or more for the best effect, the more the better. Soils should be free draining and cultivated to a depth of 25cms. In heavy soils add grit or well rotted compost to help with drainage. Plant tulips 10-15cms deep and 10cms apart. In containers planting distance can be reduced to 5cms. Tulips are easy to grow and the double early group are amongst the earliest to flower.
