Probably the best known of the single early tulips. The flowers are a pale orange with each petal atractively flamed purple. Growing only 30cm tall it is ideal for pots and tubs or for early formal displays at the front of borders. Princess Irene is a proven winner and as such awardedr a garden merit by the RHS for its great all round performance. Soils are ideally cultivated to a depth of 25cms and add grit or well rotted humus to help with drainage in heavier soil types. Plant 10 to 15cms deep and 10cms apart in groups of10 or more for the best effect. When growing in containers plant depth can be at the 10cm mark and distance between bulbs 5cms.
